Meta introduces new subscription add-ons and AI packages

Listen to the article 4 min This audio is auto-generated. Please let us know if you have feedback. After a few months of testing, Meta has confirmed that it’s rolling out new add-on subscriptions for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, as the company looks to increase its subscription revenue. As outlined by Naomi Gleit, Meta’s head of product, Meta’s new Plus products will provide a range of exclusive add-ons for paying users of each app. Instagram Plus, for example, which was spotted in testing in March, will give users the chance to pay $3.99 per month for additional features including Stories insights, new Superlike animations and the ability...

Meta Takes Next Steps Towards the Development of True Artificial Intelligence

Meta’s looking to take the next major steps in AI development, which has become a key focus for Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, as he eyes a new era of digital interaction, where true artificial intelligence can be achieved. Meta’s latest project on this front is its V-JEPA 2 world model, which can help computer systems understand more about their environment, in order to factor such into their responses. As explained by Meta: “As humans, we have the ability to predict how the physical world will evolve in response to our actions or the actions of others. For example, you know that if you toss a tennis ball into the air, gravity will pull it back down. When you walk through an unfamiliar crowded area, you’re making moves toward your destination, while also trying not to bump into people or obst...

Want to See Who Clicked Your Meta Ads? Now You Can

We’ve talked a lot about Facebook and Meta ads over the past few months here at Customers.ai. From performance issues to rising costs to attribution challenges and more, there’s been no shortage of Meta-related problems. The thing is, I still believe in Meta ads. It is an unbelievably cost-effective marketing channel and with the right targeting, can be a huge driver of sales and revenue for ecommerce companies. Why do I believe in this so strongly? Because as we speak, our customers are seeing unreal results when using Customers.ai with Meta ads. Here are just two recent examples: Restore Custom Audience: 40,000 Visitors, $9k in Revenue An ecommerce site using our website visitor ID X-ray pixel captured 40,000 visitors to their site. Those visitors were put into a ...

It’s Time to Rethink Your Meta Ads Strategy

If you’re running Meta Ads, you are well aware of the problems currently facing advertisers.  Let’s take a look at some headlines from the past two weeks, shall we? Search Engine Land Bloomberg Digiday The Motley Fool You get the point.  Things are not looking good and Meta doesn’t seem to have an answer for the people pouring their budgets into the platform.  Now, I’ve been talking about the decline of Facebook for some time.  Starting with the iOS14 update and continuing into this year with the deprecation of cookies, Meta targeting is nowhere close to what it used to be. I’m sorry to say that without a strategy change on the part of advertisers, it isn’t going to get better anytime soon. Meta is still figuring out how to deal ...

Meta Tests DMs on Threads via Instagram Inbox

Good news: You’ll soon be able to send DMs on Threads. Bad news: They won’t be via a dedicated Threads inbox. This week, Meta launched a new live test of DMs on Threads, with some users seeing a new “Message” CTA button on Threads profiles. As you can see in this example, shared by Chris Messina, the new Threads DM option will technically enable you to send messages to users via the app. But as you can see in the bottom prompt, that message won’t be via Threads itself. Instead, you’ll actually be sending your DM to their Instagram inbox. Which is not so bad. I mean, it’s still a DM option within Threads, providing an advanced connection process within the app. But many will be disappointed that Threads isn’t getting its own DM inbox, which, as a replica of Twitter, would bring it more ...

Meta Updates AI Labeling Policy to Expose Generated Content in its Apps

Meta’s updating its AI content labels to ensure that a broader range of synthetic content is being tagged, in response to a growing flood of generative AI posts in the app. Over the past few months, more and more AI engagement bait has been showing up on Facebook, and has also been generating a heap of engagement. Like, even the slightest level of scrutiny would reveal that this is not a real image. But Facebook is used by billions of people, and not all of them are going to zoom in, or have the digital literacy to even be aware that generative AI can even be used in this way (as denoted by the 6.9k Likes on this post). As such, Meta’s updating its AI labeling policies to ensure that more AI-generated content is tagged and disclosed accordingly. As per Meta: “Our existing approach is t...

Future-Proofing Your Meta Ads Retargeting Strategies

For years, Meta Ads have been a mainstay in digital marketing strategies, with companies predicted to spend between $36.5 billion and $40 billion in Q4 2023 alone.  However, the landscape is undergoing a seismic shift, with the repercussions of privacy changes reverberating across the advertising sphere. The recent implementation of iOS 17 changes and the impending removal of third-party cookies in Google Chrome in 2024 are casting shadows on the once-expansive reach of Meta Ads.  Unfortunately for marketers, this isn’t a future problem. Meta Ads retargeting audiences are already shrinking! There is an urgent need for strategic solutions to navigate the shrinking terrain of Meta Ads retargeting audiences. With more privacy changes likely on the way and cross-channel tracking a...

Meta Publishes New Report on Evolving Consumption Shifts, and What Marketers Need to Consider

Meta has published a new report which looks at the key consumption shifts that brands need to consider in their marketing outreach, which highlights some important notes for all businesses to factor in. The research, conducted by Meta, in partnership with Kantar and Nielsen, is focused on opportunities in the Asia-Pacific market, though many of the lessons and notes would be largely universal, as they relate to global economic and behavioral shifts. As explained by Meta: “Businesses today are facing a new reality: an uncertain macroeconomic landscape, increasing pressure on profitability, efficiency and business outcomes, and changing media consumption habits. As a result of these shifts, marketers are finding that their tried-and-tested marketing mixes are no longer performing as strongly...

Meta Shares ‘Threads Dictionary’ to Keep Users Up to Speed on the Latest App Lingo

So is a post on Threads called a ‘Thread’ or a ‘post’? And what about re-posts – are they ‘re-threads’? It’s all a bit up in the air at the moment, in the (very) early days of the new Twitter-esque app, but to help you with the latest lingo, the Threads team has shared a ‘Threads Dictionary’ to keep you up to speed. So, to clarify: Each discussion is called a thread – so you post a thread in the app A post is an individual element within a thread (though some people are also referring to this as ‘threading’ or ‘stitching’) A shared thread is called a repost – not a ‘re-thread’ or some other variation Sharing someone else’s post is a quote thread It’s all pretty straightforward, there’s no new language to learn, as such. But there is going to be some discussion around what the actual act o...

Meta Publishes New Report on Evolving Data Privacy Rules, And How They’ll Impact Marketers

Meta has published a new report, in partnership with Deloitte, which examines the evolving data privacy landscape, and how businesses can prepare for the next big shifts, while also maximizing their audience outreach capacity. Various policy and institutional changes have led to new policies around how people’s personal data can and cannot be used, and that’s set to have a big impact on ad targeting, audience outreach, and more, with marketers forced to find new ways to optimize the information that they can use within these new parameters. Elements like data clean rooms and de-identified audience insights are among the key considerations, which are examined in this new report, under the broader banner of ‘privacy-enhancing technologies’ (PETs), which will become more commonplace, and th...

Meta Shares Video Ad Tips, Based on 70 Campaigns

Looking for tips to help improve the performance of your video ads? This could be worth a look – Meta recently partnered with Analytic Partners to analyze over 500 ads, across 70+ campaigns, in order to glean insight into key best practices, strategies and tips to help improve your video marketing approach. You can download the full 12-page report here, but in this post, we’ll take a look at some of the highlights. First off, the research underlines a key point that you’ve likely heard and read many times before – return on investment for video ads is over 5x higher when a brand logo is used in the ad, and is highest when the logo is shown within the first two seconds. That’s even more important with short-form video clips, highlighting the need to make your branding known quickly, in orde...

Meta Commits $150 Million to Support the Ongoing Operation of its Oversight Board

While it remains an experiment, Meta’s Oversight Board provides an interesting case study in third-party regulation of social platforms, and how official rules and regulations could help to ensure more uniformity, and fairness, within platform rulings. Founded back in 2019, the Oversight Board is an independent group of experts to whom Meta and its users can refer appeals over platform and content decisions, providing another avenue for more complex concerns. The Board can then rule on each case, and make recommendations to Meta as to how it might update its policies in-step, which Meta doesn’t necessarily have to implement. But it provides at least some type of double-checking measure, even if it is essentially funded by Meta itself. Which will continue to be the case, with Meta today a...

Meta Announces Coming Digital Payment and NFT Options as it Advances Towards the Metaverse

Given the current volatility in crypto markets, which have been intrinsically connected to the current NFT trend, it seems like a strange time for Meta to be making a bigger push on NFTs, and its various NFT projects across its apps. But that’s what it’s doing, with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announcing coming digital payment options, and Meta previewing new NFT features, along with a new guide as to how NFTs work to help people get into the market. First off, on payments – as part of a broader confirmation of the re-naming of ‘Facebook Pay’ to ‘Meta Pay’ instead, Zuckerberg has also announced that Meta’s working on a new ‘wallet for the metaverse’ which will provide a more integrated way to securely manage your digital identity and purchases. As explained by Zuckerberg: “In the future the...

Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg Announces Her Pending Exit from the Company

As Meta gradually evolves from Facebook, and focuses on the next stage of digital connection, it will be doing so without one of the company’s key leaders, with COO Sheryl Sandberg announcing today that she will leave the company in the next few months. In a long post on (of course) Facebook, Sandberg has provided an overview of her experiences working at The Social Network for the last 14 years, with Sandberg coming into the company in 2008, just four years after Mark Zuckerberg created the first iteration of the app in a Harvard dorm room. Sandberg has played a key role in developing Meta’s business, overseeing the introduction of its ads infrastructure, and acting as a central figure in almost every major update at the company ever since. The experience, as you would expect, has had ...

Meta Announces ‘Recurring Notifications’ for Business Messaging, a Significant Shift in its Platform Approach

This is an unusual switch up in Meta’s business messaging rules. This week, at its first-ever ‘Conversations’ messaging conference, Meta announced ‘Recurring Notifications’ on its Messenger Platform, which will enable businesses to send ‘proactive, automated messages, to people who have opted in to receiving them’. As you can see here, businesses will soon be able to send recurring notifications to users that opt in, with the upfront prompts outlining the frequency of messages that they’ll likely receive if they choose to get them. Businesses will be able to send sales notifications, updates, newsletters – pretty much whatever they like, with the frequency options ranging from daily to monthly, ‘so businesses can reach customers at any moment in their journey’. Which is pretty much the ...

Meta Launches New Creator Funding Programs to Fuel Development of the Metaverse

Meta’s moving fast into the next stage of digital connection – or at least, it’s setting the stage for metaverse development, with two new creator funding options that are designed to better incentivize user contributions to its digital worlds. The first is an expansion of its $10 million Horizon Worlds Creator Funding program, which it first launched in October last year. Horizon Worlds is Meta’s VR sandbox, where creators can build their own immersive experiences. And now, they’ll have another means of monetizing those efforts. As explained by Meta: “We’re beginning to test a Horizon Worlds Creator Bonus program for participants in the US. These bonuses come in the form of goal-oriented monthly programs where the creators are paid out at the end of the month for their progress toward ...

Meta Releases New ‘Widely Viewed Content’ Report for Facebook, Which Continues to be a Baffling Overview

Safe to say that Meta’s efforts to refute the idea that Facebook amplifies divisive political content are not going exactly as it would have hoped. As a quick recap, last year, Facebook published its first ever ‘Widely Viewed Content’ report for Facebook, which it launched largely in response to this Twitter account, created by New York Times journalist Kevin Roose, which highlights the most popular Facebook posts every day, based on listings from Facebook's own CrowdTangle monitoring platform. Meta Launches New Metaverse-Aligned Ad Campaign for its Quest 2 VR Headsets

While Facebook’s daily user count may have stalled, parent company Meta is already looking towards the next stage, by shifting its attention to the theoretical ‘metaverse’ and how we’ll all be interacting in fully digital environments in the very near future. Which is the focus of Meta’s latest ad campaign, which it launched this week. As you can see, amid the Super Bowl hype train, Meta’s looking to promote its Quest 2 VR headsets, with the story of an out of work dog mascot who rediscovers his old friends in Meta’s version of the metaverse - which, at least based on this example, will exist within VR. Which is not the whole metaverse story, as Meta is keen to point out. Indeed, Meta has repeatedly noted that the metaverse, as per its vision, will incorporate AR, VR, machine learning, ...

Meta Releases New Insights into its Evolving Efforts to Detect Coordinated Manipulation Programs

Meta has shared some new insights into its ongoing efforts to combat coordinated misinformation networks operating across its platforms, which became a major focus for the company following the 2016 US Election, and the revelations that Russian-backed teams had sought to sway the opinions of American voters. As explained by Meta: “Since 2017, we’ve reported on over 150 influence operations with details on each network takedown so that people know about the threats we see - whether they come from nation states, commercial firms or unattributed groups. Information sharing enabled our teams, investigative journalists, government officials and industry peers to better understand and expose internet-wide security risks, including ahead of critical elections.” Meta publishes a monthly round-up...

Facebook Goes All Meta | Webdesigner Depot Webdesigner Depot » Blog Archive

It’s almost Halloween, so we were all expecting the odd scare, but little could have prepared us for the blood-chilling horror of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg ‘acting’ amazed in front of a green-screened mockup of The Metaverse, during his keynote at the company’s Connect event. Zuckerberg — or The Zuckster, as I imagine he introduces himself when arriving uninvited to your birthday drinks — was in the process of announcing that the company formally known as Facebook would from now on be known simply as Meta. Facebook, the social network, will remain Facebook, but it will be one product among many. Or, as The Zuckster clearly hopes, one among all. With the new name comes a new visual identity, one so bland that I need to go full-on Clockwork Orange just to critique it. Eyes pinned open, y...
