How to create a lead magnet in less than a day (that actually works)

By Liz Willits November 9, 2022 Trying to build a lead magnet that actually grows your email list? Short on time? Read this post to learn how to create an effective lead magnet. You’ve probably seen it yourself: websites offering huge gifts to compel website visitors to join their email lists — 10-page ebooks, 5-day courses, 25-page white papers and beyond. These gifts are called lead magnets or incentives. What is a lead magnet? A lead magnet is a freebie you give your subscribers for joining your email list. A great lead magnet convinces the right people to subscribe to your list (those who are likely to buy), builds trust, and assists in converting your leads into customers. The problem is, while a great lead magnet is a valuable list-growth tool, you probably feel ...

By Sean Tinney November 3, 2022 Take back control of how you communicate with your audience by driving social media followers into your email list. Social media is a powerful tool for raising awareness of your brand and engaging your audience. And that’s what most people use it for. But it’s also an excellent tool for moving people into the “subscribe” stage of your marketing funnel.  Trouble is, social media can be unreliable. What would you do if Instagram shut down tomorrow? Or Facebook has an outage? Or… Twitter is sold and you no longer have access to your followers? Any of that could cut you off from your audience.  Don’t think it could happen? Three words for you: Myspace. Friendster. Google+. But with an email list, you don’t have to worry about social media ea...

How to test emails before you send them

Remember that cringe-worthy moment when Steve Harvey read the wrong name for the winner of Miss Universe? Don’t be like Steve. Avoid mistakes in front of a large audience by testing emails before you send them. This doesn’t take a lot of time – maybe five to 10 minutes. It will keep you from embarrassing yourself and annoying your subscribers. One bad experience can be enough to turn a subscriber away for good. But if you do accidentally pull a Steve Harvey and mess up? It happens. Don’t let the fear of making a mistake keep you from sending your emails. You can always send an apology email. Why E-A-T Inspires Local Content Creation

We’ve all educated ourselves on Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-A-T). We’ve all debated whether it’s a ranking factor or if it’s not. And we’ve all struggled to determine whether a client is part of a Your Money or Your Life (YMYL) niche and whether we should pay attention to E-A-T when making content decisions. E-A-T should inspire local content creation and all content creation at every level, no matter how big or small our clients are. E-A-T quickly shows us the type of considerations we should make when creating content, even if it doesn’t matter for checking off boxes for SEO best practices. It gives us a glimpse of the things that are important to Google and what they look for, but beyond that, it really shows us what we should find important when crafting conten...

How to Include a Physical Address in Your Emails Without Revealing Where You Live

Adding your business’s — or your own — physical address to all your emails is a required step when you set up your first email campaign. It makes some people a little nervous. “What if someone comes to my house?”  Fortunately, there are ways to meet this requirement without revealing where you live or risking a fine. But first, let’s explain why you have to include that physical address. CAN-SPAM law and physical email address Everybody hates spam emails. (Especially us!) Google My Business Photos: The Ultimate Guide to Looking Good Online

We’ve all heard the saying that first impressions count, and this is just as true online as it is in real life.  Internet users are inherently visual creatures, with approximately 50% of the surface of the human brain devoted to processing visual information. Images and visuals are much more powerful and easier to understand than just text, as well as being easier to recall. You can find all the data behind this here . Given the human propensity to form impressions and take in information via a visual format, images are tremendously influential and key to your business looking good online.  As businesses and individuals, we’re all very used to curating the images on our website and on our social media channels in view of what we think they say about us both professionally and personally. Local SEO for Lawyers: 7 Ways to Get Started

In many ways, doing local SEO for lawyers is similar to other industries. 97% percent of Google and other search engine users look for local businesses online, and these businesses include law firms or individual practitioners.  However, it is also different from local SEO for other industries because law tends to be a highly specialized practice. For instance, while a personal injury attorney has a basic knowledge of taxation from law school, you’d rather engage with a tax lawyer if you’re trying to determine how much tax you’ll pay for real estate you’ve inherited from a grandparent.  So, how can you make sure that your client’s law firm appears somewhere at the top of search engine results pages (SERPs)? Well, you need a robust local SEO strategy. Such a strategy will help your client’...

Knowing your customers can have a big impact on your marketing, and on your business overall. Identifying customer pain points is a key part of this. People don’t buy a product or service just because it’s cheap or has flashy features. Content is Still King: Improving Local SEO With a Focus on Quality

Recently, Google’s Search Advocate John Mueller made a hard case for quality above all things SEO. However, the bar for uniqueness and quality is higher than ever. In our competitive digital landscape, how do you ensure your online efforts stand out? Fortunately for local businesses, your role in a geographically-based community gives you a point of uniqueness right there. You have a physical location and a demographic you can pinpoint. Welcome Email Campaigns: How to Onboard New Subscribers

By Pam Neely April 28, 2022 Want to make a great first impression with your new email subscribers? Send them a welcome email campaign. It’s a big deal when someone signs up for your email list. You’ve put in a lot of work to attract this person and to build up enough trust with them that they’ll let you into their inbox.  But the work isn’t done once they’ve signed up. Now your job is to engage them – to build on the trust and interest you’ve established with them so they’ll become a long-term, enthusiastic subscriber.  All that starts with a welcome email.  What’s a welcome email? A welcome email is an automated email message that is sent out to new subscribers as soon as they sign up for your email list. Some email marketers don’t send a single welcome email –...

How To Create A Star Rating System In WordPress With CSS and ACF

I recently had a request from a WordPress client for a star rating widget of sorts, so I thought I would share the solution I came up with using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) and CSS. There are no images involved – just pure CSS plus Unicode stars and a handy range slider on the back end so the client can easily enter a rating anywhere from 0 to 5 in steps of 0.1. Thanks to a nice example I found on CodePen (seen below), the front end elements were easy and simple, utilizing CSS custom properties and variables in a compact code. Connecting this to ACF so the client could easily edit their ratings brought it all together in a quick solution that I have not seen elsewhere, thus the idea to make it available here in case anyone else is looking for something similar. Ready to dig in? UNLIMITED...

Refactoring HTML and CSS – 1stWebDesigner

Something that happens often when adding content and styles to our web projects is inadvertently using too much HTML markup. For example, the <div> element is often used to group or wrap elements to add CSS to them. But it’s not always necessary to throw a <div> around the element that needs to be styled. Every HTML element is its own box and can be styled. In this example, the CSS style will look the same whether you add it to the <h1> element or its container element. But you can and should use a <div> and other container elements (e.g. <header>) when multiple elements need to be grouped. Just remember to only add what you need and use semantic HTML tags instead if a <div>, when it makes sense to do so. In the example below, I’ve removed the extra <...

Why No-Reply Email Addresses are Bad & What To Use Instead

By Sean Tinney March 29, 2022 Sending emails from “noreply@” addresses can hurt your results. We’ll let you know what to do instead. Have you ever received an email with a “do not reply” address like noreply@example.com or do-not-reply@example.com. I don’t like the way they look in my inbox, with their tough and unwelcoming facade, so I marked the emails as trash without even reading them. If you’re being disregarded based on the email you send from, you’ve got a great opportunity for better open and click rates. Avoid the trash folder and spam complaints by opening up a line of two-way communication, and making your audience feel like individuals – not just another email address. What is a no-reply email address? A no-reply email address (or “do not reply” add...
