TikTok Announces Shut Down of Separate TikTok Music App

In news that will impact… well, very few people in all honesty, TikTok has announced that it’s shutting down its separate “TikTok Music” streaming app, after various operational challenges and limited user interest. TikTok Music was initially launched in India in late 2019, under its original name “Resso”, which aligned with TikTok’s own meteoric rise in the nation. And while TikTok was banned in India in 2020, somehow, Resso avoided the same restriction. Yet, even so, Indian users didn’t show a lot of interest in TikTok’s own streaming provider. And when the app was eventually banned by Indian authorities earlier this year, it was pretty much already on the outs as a viable alternative in the region. TikTok renamed Resso to “TikTok Music” last year (which may have led to its ban in I...

X Announces That its Shutting Down ‘Circles’ As of October 31st

RIP Circles, the latest feature to be shut down as part of the transition of the app into X. Which is no surprise. X owner Elon Musk has been talking about getting rid of Circles for months, so really, it was just a matter of time. But now the X team has set an official end date. As per X: “X is deprecating Circles as of Oct 31st, 2023. After this date, you will not be able to create new posts that are limited to your Circle, nor will you be able to add people to your Circle.” Circles, which previous Twitter management first launched in May last year, was one of various projects that sought to better align in-app engagement with the broader shift of social interactions to more intimate groups, as opposed to public posting. Given that an increasing amount of users are now interacting this w...

Meta Announces Coming Digital Payment and NFT Options as it Advances Towards the Metaverse

Given the current volatility in crypto markets, which have been intrinsically connected to the current NFT trend, it seems like a strange time for Meta to be making a bigger push on NFTs, and its various NFT projects across its apps. Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg Announces Her Pending Exit from the Company

As Meta gradually evolves from Facebook, and focuses on the next stage of digital connection, it will be doing so without one of the company’s key leaders, with COO Sheryl Sandberg announcing today that she will leave the company in the next few months. In a long post on (of course) Facebook, Sandberg has provided an overview of her experiences working at The Social Network for the last 14 years, with Sandberg coming into the company in 2008, just four years after Mark Zuckerberg created the first iteration of the app in a Harvard dorm room. Sandberg has played a key role in developing Meta’s business, overseeing the introduction of its ads infrastructure, and acting as a central figure in almost every major update at the company ever since. The experience, as you would expect, has had ...

Meta Announces ‘Recurring Notifications’ for Business Messaging, a Significant Shift in its Platform Approach

This is an unusual switch up in Meta’s business messaging rules. This week, at its first-ever ‘Conversations’ messaging conference, Meta announced ‘Recurring Notifications’ on its Messenger Platform, which will enable businesses to send ‘proactive, automated messages, to people who have opted in to receiving them’. As you can see here, businesses will soon be able to send recurring notifications to users that opt in, with the upfront prompts outlining the frequency of messages that they’ll likely receive if they choose to get them. Businesses will be able to send sales notifications, updates, newsletters – pretty much whatever they like, with the frequency options ranging from daily to monthly, ‘so businesses can reach customers at any moment in their journey’. Which is pretty much the ...
