YouTube has released the initial pricing for its new ‘Sunday Ticket’ NFL broadcasts, which is part of its expanded push to win over more YouTube TV subscribers, and take up a bigger share of the traditional TV ad market. But it’s pretty pricey right now, which could keep many viewers on the sidelines. Google Outlines Ongoing Efforts to Combat China-Based Influence Operations Targeting Social Apps

Over the past year, Google has repeatedly noted that a China-based group has been looking to use YouTube, in particular, to influence western audiences, by building various channels in the app, then seeding them with pro-China content. There’s limited info available on the full origins or intentions of the group, but today, Google has published a new overview of its ongoing efforts to combat the initiative, called DRAGONBRIDGE. As explained by Google: “In 2022, Google disrupted over 50,000 instances of DRAGONBRIDGE activity across YouTube, Blogger, and AdSense, reflecting our continued focus on this actor and success in scaling our detection efforts across Google products. We have terminated over 100,000 DRAGONBRIDGE accounts in the IO network’s lifetime.” As you can see in this chart, DR...

Instagram’s Chief Outlines the Key Areas of Focus for the App in 2022

Throughout 2021, we saw Instagram copy virtually everything that TikTok has to offer, and according to Instagram chief Adam Mosseri, you can expect even more of the same in 2022, as the platform looks to focus on its key areas of growth - and in particular, consolidating its video formats to maximize engagement. In the above video post, in which Mosseri sums up the past year, he also says that Instagram will be focused on two key themes in 2022 – ‘Video and Control’ On the video front, Mosseri says that – you guessed it – Reels will remain the key focus: “We’re going to double-down on our focus on video and consolidate all of our video formats around Reels” The rise and rise of TikTok has consequently increased the pressure on Instagram, which was once the leading platform for young peo...

Snapchat has published a new overview of its ongoing efforts to combat the spread of misinformation in its app, which also provides some valuable insights into the variance between Snap and other platforms, and why it requires a unique, dedicated approach. While Facebook and Twitter work to contain false information, particularly around vaccine side effects amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Snapchat has largely remained out of the discussion around the same, with its alternative approach to social potentially outlining a framework to better manage news distribution in this respect. Essentially, Snapchat says that it's ultimately seeing success with its approach to misinformation and safety due to the app's design, which is focused on maintaining close connections, as opposed to broadcasting to...
