Elon Musk Says Users With a Lot of Verified Followers Will Get Free Checkmarks

A lot of people with big followings are about to get their X (formerly Twitter) checkmarks back, whether they want them or not. It seems that X owner Elon Musk is trying yet another angle to boost X subscriptions, this time by giving them away to users with high follower counts in the app. Going forward, all ???? accounts with over 2500 verified subscriber followers will get Premium features for free and accounts with over 5000 will get Premium+ for free— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 28, 2024 Well, high verified follower counts that is. As outlined by Musk, users with over 2,500 paying users following them will now get X Premium for free, while those with 5,000 blue tick accounts among their audience will get X Premium+ for free. Why? Well, presumably Musk believes that more people wil...

Elon Musk calls LinkedIn ‘Cringe’—Announces…

It seems we can’t go for one week without talking about Elon Musk, but the news simply writes itself. In a recent post, The Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI owner announced his intentions to compete with LinkedIn by incorporating job listings into X (formerly Twitter). In trademark Musk fashion, the Twitter boss told his followers he couldn’t use LinkedIn because its ‘cringe level is so high’. Presumably, this reveals that Musk believes his own ‘cringe levels’ to be remarkably low in comparison. Whatever you say, Elon. In the tweet, Musk also announced that he would make the X competitor to LinkedIn ‘cool’. It’s impossible to predict what this entails.  Perhaps Musk’s idea of cool is making his job site look dark, edgy, and brooding, much like the recent white stains he incorporated into the X lo...

Elon Musk Says that Twitter Will Start Sharing Revenue with Creators for Ads in Replies

The next stage of Twitter’s creator monetization push is coming, though there are some pretty significant considerations to factor into the latest revenue share element outlined by Twitter chief Elon Musk. In a few weeks, X/Twitter will start paying creators for ads served in their replies. First block payment totals $5M.Note, the creator must be verified and only ads served to verified users count.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 9, 2023 As explained by Musk, very soon, Twitter will begin sharing revenue with creators for ads shown in their tweet replies. Which adds another pathway for people to make money from their Twitter presence, though the actual detail in this case is important. First off, as Musk notes, only Twitter Blue subscribers (or those gifted verification) will be eligible for...

Elon Musk Outlines Roadmap for ‘Twitter 2.0’ in New Slide Deck

Elon Musk has provided some more insight into his evolving plan for Twitter, which will now also see the company embark on a hiring push, after firing 65% of its workforce, in order to get in more development and engineering talent to help realize Musk’s grand vision. And with that, Musk has put together a new pitch deck, of sorts, which aims to clarify his current plan. Which, as noted, is evolving quickly, so it may end up being totally different, it may be indicative - we don’t know for sure as yet. But he is slowly clarifying and honing in on specific elements. Here’s a look at the collection of slides that Musk has put together to present his current strategic outline for the app. As you can see in this first slide, Musk’s presentation shows that new account sign-ups are at an all-ti...

The Complete Elon Musk–Twitter Saga

So, Elon Musk is now the ‘Chief Twit’ as he says, with the billionaire taking ownership of the platform late Thursday, and for now at least, appointing himself as interim CEO. Whether he stays on as chief, or appoints somebody else to that role, remains to be seen, but thus far, it does appear as though Musk plans to take a hands-on role in re-aligning the app in his vision.  Musk’s first order of business was to fire several top execs. The loss of so much experience will hurt the company, no doubt. But Musk has an alternative view on what Twitter should be, so they were unlikely to ever see eye-to-eye anyway. And the departing execs will take home millions in payouts, which should soften the blow, before they’re re-appointed at another tech firm in similar roles. Musk’s second key order o...
