X Continues to Share Misleading Data Notes, As Third Party Reports Show Declines in Usage

Every time you go to write anything about the platform formerly known as Twitter these days, whether you like it or not, whether you intend to or not, you are also going to be wading into political waters. That’s because Elon Musk has made X into a political story in itself, while any criticism is viewed through the lens of personal hate for Elon, and an effort to stop Musk’s inherently political goals. “You hate free speech” is the most common counter, but in reality, nobody hates free speech, and the vast majority of critics aren’t trying to make a comment on Musk or his stated goals. In fact, those same critics have been just as harsh about Meta, TikTok, Snapchat, etc. But Elon has intentionally tried to make criticism of X a bigger issue than just the flaws at X itself. Yet, it’s di...

Facebook Continues to Add Users After 20 Years of Existence

Despite ongoing predictions of its demise, and countless straight up declarations of the same, Facebook is still going strong, and still adding users, despite the app now having been with us for 20 years. Yes, this week marks the 20th anniversary of “The Facebook”, Mark Zuckerberg’s Harvard side project, which went on to become a global powerhouse, which is now used by almost half of all people on the planet. Indeed, as of last count, Facebook now has over 3 billion monthly active users. To put that in perspective, the population of the entire world is around 8 billion, and with 1.4 billion people in China, where Meta’s apps are not available, and around 25% of the global population aged under 15 (you have to be 13 years old to sign up for Facebook), that suggests that the majority of peo...

Meta Releases New ‘Widely Viewed Content’ Report for Facebook, Which Continues to be a Baffling Overview

Safe to say that Meta’s efforts to refute the idea that Facebook amplifies divisive political content are not going exactly as it would have hoped. As a quick recap, last year, Facebook published its first ever ‘Widely Viewed Content’ report for Facebook, which it launched largely in response to this Twitter account, created by New York Times journalist Kevin Roose, which highlights the most popular Facebook posts every day, based on listings from Facebook's own CrowdTangle monitoring platform. The top-performing link posts by U.S. Facebook pages in the last 24 hours are from:1. Occupy Democrats2. Ben Shapiro3. Occupy Democrats4. Ben Shapiro5. Ben Shapiro6. Bloomberg7. Occupy Democrats8. Twitter Adds Spaces Access via the Web as it Continues to Develop its Audio Social Platform

Twitter has taken another steady leap forward in the evolving audio social sphere by adding Spaces access via the web, meaning that you can now tune into Twitter Spaces from your desktop PC. It's not perfect as yet. I tried to tune into a couple of Spaces and got as far as this screen, which remained stagnant for as long as I waited. But early teething problems aside, the ability to access Spaces on the web is a significant advance, as it not only opens up the option to even more users, but it also enables hosts and speakers to use their PC microphones and audio set-ups, which will lend itself to more professional sounding, higher quality Spaces streams. As you can see in the image above, when you go to join a Space on your PC, you'll first get a preview of the Space, similar to the mo...
