Sometimes I think Yelp might have matured, mellowed out a little, and eased up on longstanding policies that make no sense and don’t help anyone.  But then Yelp just doubles down. Case in point: Yelp has started asking reviewers whether you asked them for a review.  As you probably know, Yelp doesn’t want business owners, employees, or anyone else to ask anyone else for a review.  (As you may also know if you’re a longtime reader, I think that’s a horrible policy.) The question is as follows: Did this business ask you to write a review?  For example, did a staff member request it, or did you get a text or email asking for a review? Before we get too far, let me state that this isn’t a “woe is me” post. I may be grumpy, but I also know how to count my blessings. And I’ve been fortunate in numerous ways. It’s just that… I’m tired. You see, after 25+ years in this industry, I’ve come to realize that this job doesn’t get any easier. If anything, more layers of complexity keep being added.
